Weather Policy
All dive charters operate in open water on the Great Lakes. Conditions on the lakes can change quickly, and the safety of our clients, crew, and vessels always comes first.
We monitor weather forecasts closely in the days leading up to every charter. Final go or no-go decisions are made the morning of departure based on current conditions at the launch site and the dive site.
What Constitutes a Weather Cancellation
A charter may be cancelled or modified due to:
- High winds or wave heights that make safe transit or diving impractical
- Lightning or severe weather in the forecast for the dive window
- Reduced visibility or conditions at the site that make the planned dive unsafe
- Any other condition that, in the judgment of the captain, presents an unacceptable risk to clients or crew
The captain’s decision is final. We do not ask clients to accept conditions we would not dive ourselves.
Cancellation Credit
If we cancel a charter due to weather before or during the day, you will receive a full credit toward a future booking. Credits do not expire and can be applied to any FullyTek charter.
We do not issue cash refunds for weather cancellations. This policy reflects the reality of operating on the Great Lakes: weather is unpredictable, and a credit ensures that neither you nor we absorb the full cost of a day neither of us controls.
For multi-day trips (Point Traverse, Northwind), credit applies to the affected charter day(s). Accommodation costs are subject to the policy of the third-party property and are not covered by FullyTek.
Client-Initiated Cancellations
If you need to cancel your booking, please contact us as early as possible. Our standard cancellation terms are outlined in your booking confirmation. Credits and refunds for client-initiated cancellations are handled on a case-by-case basis and depend on notice given and whether we are able to rebook the date.
Conditions That Deteriorate During the Day
Occasionally, conditions at the surface are acceptable at departure but worsen during the charter. If diving becomes unsafe partway through the day, we will return to port. In this case, a partial credit will be issued proportional to the diving that was not completed.
We will always attempt to complete the planned dives. Decisions to turn back are not made lightly.
How We Communicate Cancellations
We aim to notify clients of a weather cancellation by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of the charter. We will contact you by the phone number or email address on file. If conditions are borderline, we may request that you are available and ready to launch while we make a final assessment.
If you have not heard from us by departure time, the charter is on as planned.
